Wiring Next Century TR4X to Encoded Meter (Elster/AMCO)

Step-by-Step Instructions for Wiring Connection between TR4x Transceiver and Amco Elster Meter

Objective:

To make the wiring connection between a TR4x Next Entry transceiver and a register or meter with an Amco Elster connection type.

Materials Needed:

  • TR4x Next Century transceiver
  • Amco Elster meter
  • Provided connectors (button connectors)
  • Water-resistant cap filled with grease
  • Wire stripper/crimper tool

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Wires

  1. Ensure all exposed wires are removed for the connectors provided.
    • Note: Exposed wires can cause improper connections and potential short circuits.

Step 2: Connect the Green Wires

  1. Locate the green wire on the transceiver side.
  2. Locate the green wire on the meter side.
  3. Use a button connector to join the green wires:
    • Start from the back side of the connector.
    • Ensure the wires are completely buried into the back of the connector.
    • Crush the front of the connector into the back until it is flush.
    • This will bite into the wires and create a secure connection.

Step 3: Connect the Red Wires

  1. Locate the red wire on the TR4x transceiver side.
  2. Locate the red wire on the Amco Elster meter side.
  3. Use a button connector to join the red wires, following the same procedure as in Step 2.

Step 4: Connect the Black Wires

  1. Locate the black wire on the transceiver side.
  2. Locate the black wire on the meter side.
  3. Use a button connector to join the black wires, following the same procedure as in Step 2.

Step 5: Test the Connections

  1. Test each connection to ensure they are solid and secure.
  2. Fold one of the connections back to double-check that they are not going to come free.

Step 6: Insert into Water-Resistant Cap

  1. Insert the connected wires into the provided water-resistant cap.
    • Ensure the connections are submerged below the level of the grease.
    • This step is crucial for making the connections water-resistant.

Conclusion:

By following these steps, you will have successfully made a secure and water-resistant wiring connection between the TR4x Next Entry transceiver and the Amco Elster meter.
