Troubleshooting Inaccurate Meter Reads
5 Gallon Bucket
Before starting, make sure all water is turned off in the unit so no other water will be tracked while testing.
Using a 5 gallon bucket, fill the bucket 2 times. This will be almost exactly 10 gallons in total. Many meters can have a permanent 0 at the end of the odometer and have more precise dials underneath that break out the reading in greater detail. By running 10 gallons we can verify that all the dials move and that the meter is accurate.
Verify the meter face has increased by 10 gallons or very close. Remember to check all the dials as the odometer on the meter may only track in 10 gallon increments, and the small dials underneath register in 1 and 0.1 increments.
